Google’s Android boss Andy Rubin has tweeted a new milestone for the company’s smartphone and tablet OS. “There are now over 500,000 Android devices activated every day, and it’s growing at 4.4% w/w” he said (that’d be week-on-week). In May, Google said that more than 100 million Android devices had been activated ever, so you can see how fast the platform is growing thanks to device sales from Android manufacturers like Samsung, HTC, LG and Motorola. The big issue around Android is that there are lots of devices out there – it’s outstripping Apple’s iOS for sales by an increasing margin – but there remains doubt over how many of those users will pay for applications and content. Today, Google is hosting a Think Mobile event in London that should provide more details on the company’s approach to content and apps on Android. Music Ally is attending, and will bring you the news tomorrow. Source: The Next Web
