UK streaming music service we7 is making its long-planned leap across the English Channel with the launch of its service in Belgium. It goes live today with a catalogue of 7.5 million songs, and licensing deals with local labels as well as its existing partners. Why Belgium? “We’ve wanted to expand we7 for some time, and for a number of reasons Belgium has always felt like an important place to start,” says CEO Steve Purdham. “First, the music scene here is exciting and diverse and many of its homegrown talents, such as Soulwax, have even found success outside of the country. Second, Belgium plays host to the European Union, where many of the critical decisions that affect the modern music business are made. We found it interesting that Belgium, the centre of European legislation, did not have any legal digital music services.” Source: we7
