Dalton Caldwell is steering well clear of music with his latest startup Mixed Media Labs – no surprise, given the Imeem founder’s famous speech advising entrepreneurs to give the music industry a wide berth. However, MML’s new project may be of interest to music companies. It’s called App.net, and essentially helps people to create landing webpages for their mobile apps, which give users more information about them and direct them to the various app stores. “If I’m doing real marketing for my app, pointing to the App Store web page is lame. You don’t point to the Amazon buy page for a product,” Caldwell tells TechCrunch. Why use App.net rather than simply make a page for the app on your own website? A good question. At this stage, we’re struggling to think of an answer.
