It’s a busy time for singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright, what with a run at London’s Royal Opera House and a 19-CD box set covering his entire career. Now he’s got a new website too: the work of Universal Music UK and startup Memolane. The site takes the form of an interactive timeline sitting within the existing Rufus Wainwright site. It pulls in updates from Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Last.fm and Myspace [sic], while also letting fans contribute their own memories and data. “We wanted to create an interactive snap-shot of Rufus’ entire career which traced the events that led from his very first demo tapes right up to his upcoming shows at the Royal Opera House,” says Belle Crocker, Universal Music UK’s UMSM senior digital manager.
