European mobile firm Mobile Chilli is launching its music downloads service in South Africa, with all four major labels on board, plus Ministry of Sound. Users can preview and buy tracks, albums and ringtones from the store, while getting the music delivered to their PCs as well. The company points out that there are 14 million mobile phone owners in South Africa – nearly three times the number of fixed-line broadband subscribers. Meanwhile, in Europe, Mobile Chilli says its business has seen users quadruple since the start of 2010 – no, it doesn’t say from what – while it expects to sell its one millionth paid download by the end of this year.
