Research In Motion has launched version 6 of its BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) application, with a strong focus on the way it can be integrated into other apps for the company’s smartphones. One of the implications is the ability to hold BBM chats with friends from within apps using the BBM Social API, rather than just from within the main messaging app. Among the apps using this from day one are Foursquare, Huffington Post, Poynt, Wikitude and Telemap. As far as we can make out, it’s not being used yet by any music apps – or at least they haven’t announced the functionality. In theory, BBM Social could be a good thing for music, helping people share details of songs and artists. Source: CrackBerry
