US streaming music service Rdio has launched its official iPad app, offering the same features as its existing iPhone version, but with a user interface more suited to the larger tablet screen. However, the company’s approach to subscriptions is noteworthy. People can sign up for Rdio through the app, but they’ll pay $14.99 a month compared to the $9.99 a web-and-mobile subscription costs if signed up for directly from Rdio on its site. The extra five dollars is to cover Apple’s 30% cut of subscription revenues gained directly from the iPad app, with mathematicians among you quickly working out that $5 is about right for 30% of $14.99.
