Rock band Mastodon are working with LA firm Total Immersion to bring a dash of augmented reality to the cover of their new album The Hunter. Said cover features a sculpture that to our mind is part lion, part bird and part vintage UK children’s-TV puppet Pob. Anyway, fans buying the CD will be able to use their computer webcam to put their face into the image. Meanwhile, those buying a special ‘Direct-To-Fan Package’ will get an enhanced version of the AR, and other embedded/exclusive content. NME.com adds that the band’s Brent Hinds reckons that the album will get kids into trouble. “They’re going to break speakers, pop springs on their beds and get drunk and nude in public,” he says.
