MTV’s latest music app has made its debut on Android, although its description text makes it clear an iPhone version is coming too. It’s called MTV Live & Local, and claims to be “the ultimate mobile app to navigate live music”. It’s the result of a partnership between MTV and social location music startup Superglued, offering a calendar of local shows to the user, and making recommendations using The Echo Nest’s ‘similar artists’ API. The Android app descriptions mentions that the app ‘scans your iTunes library on your iPhone to build your favourite artist library and recommend similar shows’, while there is also a real-time feed of friends’ activities, profiles for artists and members, and the ability to post and browse tweets and photos from gigs. Oh, and Foursquare check-ins and the ability to search multiple ticket agencies for gig tickets. Essentially, it’s a Songkick rival – and a heavyweight one at that. Source: AndroLib
