UK live promoters SJM Concerts and Metropolis Music have launched an iOS ticketing app under their joint Gigsandtours.com brand, and claim it’s the first such app from British concert promoters. The app shows gigs near the user’s current location in the coming months and lets them search for other tickets, with news, social features for Twitter and Facebook, and videos from the Gigsandtours YouTube channel. Users don’t actually buy tickets within the app – that would require Apple taking a 30% cut – so instead they are directed to the Gigsandtours mobile site. It looks good, although we’re slightly puzzled by that latter feature: with e-book apps like Amazon’s Kindle now barred from including Buy buttons that direct users to their external websites, it’s interesting to see a music ticketing app doing exactly that.
