Fancy a cuppa with Ellie Goulding? The UK singer/songwriter is working with drinks brand SoBe on an ‘Afternoon Tea with Ellie Goulding’ promotion, hosted on Facebook. Fans have to Like the SoBe Facebook page to enter, then describe what their perfect South Beach afternoon tea would involve. It’s hard to make out how many people have entered so far, although SoBe’s page has just over 18,700 Likes at the time of writing. While Facebook+Brand seems a fertile opportunity for artists, we do wonder what the real benefits are for the brands in these promotions. All those people aren’t Liking SoBe’s page because they like its products: they like Ellie Goulding. They might get SoBe’s updates in their news feed in the coming months, but how many will act on them? Link
