British duo Hurts are huge in Germany, apparently. Now they’ve parlayed that fame into a more global success, livestreaming their recent Berlin gig online and attracting more than 100,000 viewers. The gig was streamed on the official Hurts website and Facebook page through a partnership with Muzu, which also saw branded players appear on UK music sites NME.com and 4Music. “During this whole campaign we’ve found the live show to be one of the driving forces in converting word of mouth and casual awareness, into loyal fans,” RCA product manager Ben Townley tells Music Week. “Showing one of live shows online was a natural progression to broaden out to an audience that would not have necessarily seen the full show by themselves.” 30,000 status updates and tweets were generated by the gig, which took place in between album cycles to keep the band’s profile high.
