A disheartening stat for rightsholders: BitTorrent client uTorrent now has more than 100 million monthly active users, four times the amount it had three years ago. “This is a big milestone for uTorrent and adds to what has been a tremendous year of growth for the client,” BitTorrent’s chief strategist tells TorrentFreak. “We’re grateful for our users and we want to thank our global community for their amazing support.” Now, the obvious point is that not all of these people are using uTorrent for piracy, although for obvious reasons, stats on how many are hard to come by. TorrentFreak makes the point that uTorrent’s users are now more mainstream – “hockey moms, grandparents…” – and highlights new features coming later this year including the ability to convert videos and transfer files to external devices.
