Is Facebook Places going to be a big deal for music marketing as people check in to gigs and other music events? Not any more. The social network has announced that it is “phasing out the mobile-only Places feature”. That doesn’t mean Facebook is giving up on location: instead, users will now be able to tag anything – photos, status updates, wall posts etc – with their location. The change came as part of a wider set of tweaks to Facebook’s privacy settings, giving more control to Facebook users over who sees their content – including making it only viewable by specific groups: friends, family, workmates etc. If that sounds similar to the Circles feature in Google+… well, it is.
