It’s been clear for some time that UK music retailer HMV is continuing to move away from… well, from being a music retailer. We walked past the Oxford Street store yesterday, and there were more Android tablets being promoted at the entrance than albums. Anyway, HMV has been outlining its strategy, based on trials devoting 25% of floor space in six stores to consumer electronics. Now, that’s rolling out to 150 stores across the UK and Ireland according to Billboard, including dedicated sections for Apple, Acer, Beats, Bose and Samsung. “Expanding our range of technology products, through which so many of us increasingly consume our entertainment content these days, is actually a very natural fit for us,” says HMV’s head of technology Ewan Pinder.
