Who’s up for a gong at this year’s BT Digital Music Awards? The shortlists have just been announced for the event, which takes place at the Roundhouse in Camden on 29 September. Much as we’d love to get sucked into the contest between Olly Murs and Matt Cardle for Best Male Artist, our interest is in the categories for music services. Best Place to Discover Music will be contested by Last.fm, Mixcloud, Radio 1 Online, Resident Advisor, SBTV and Shazam. The nominees for Best Place To Hear Music are iPlayer, Last.fm, Mixcloud, Spotify, YouTube and Vevo. And Best Place To Buy Music will see Amazon, Bleep, Boomkat, iTunes, Spotify and we7 fighting it out. There is also a Best Music App category featuring the BBC Radio 1 / 1Xtra mobile web app, iElectribe’s Gorillaz edition, Orange’s Glastonbury 2011 app, Radio Soulwax, The xx’s iPhone app and Songkick – what, no Bjork? Finally, the Best Innovation or Gadget category sees nominations for Gibson Firebird X, Mobile Roadie, Pledge Music, SoundOut, SoundCloud and The Widget. Link
