A few weeks ago, we reported on the launch of an official iPhone app for The X Factor in the UK, complete with a ‘Tap to Clap’ feature enabling viewers to register their appreciation (or disgust) for a contestant by tapping the touchscreen to virtually boo or clap. So how’s that going down with the X Factor’s sizeable audience? According to FremantleMedia, more than 17.6 million claps and boos were registered on the Saturday 3rd September show alone, taking the total to 31 million for the first three shows in the series. The caveat being that some X Factor fans are *awfully* keen, so it’s anyone’s guess what the average number of taps per viewer is (and thus how many people are actively using this feature).
