Universal Music Group has announced its latest internal promotion. UMGI VP of technology Simon Watt has been promoted to head of technology at the label’s global digital group, reporting directly to digital head honcho Rob Wells. Watt will be based in the label’s Los Angeles office focusing on ‘developing and supporting strategic technical engagements with partners, developing new technology solutions, integrating new business models into the company’s systems and implementing their rollout to international markets’. He’s expected to work closely with Apple, Google, YouTube, Spotify and Microsoft among others. “As the demand for digital music continues to grow, we are committed to working with those innovative companies in bringing new and dynamic services to fans everywhere,” says Watt. “Having a results-driven executive of Simon’s calibre and experience lead our technology group demonstrates that we’ve got the best talent in place to maximise many of these opportunities in the current marketplace.” Source: UMG
