Google has started testing celebrity endorsements in the ads that appear alongside its search results. The test was announced at the SMX East conference in New York last week, and is apparently involving a “handful” of people. The example given in Search Engine Land’s story is an advert for the Kardashian Line at US retailer Sears, with a little flash saying ‘Khloe Kardashian endorsed this’. Few other details are available, but it sounds like it may have potential for music artists too, although the endorsing appears to be something that happens with whatever brand or company is buying the ads, rather than with Google directly. One thought: could streaming music services and download stores start signing up artists to endorse them in search results… Source: Search Engine Land
