Keep a close eye on Amazon’s Appstore: not only is it the company’s first attempt to sell mobile apps (for Android), but it’s expected to be the Trojan Horse for the company’s launch of a full Android tablet later this year. Until now, the Appstore has only been available in the US, but yesterday Amazon quietly launched it in the UK, Holland, Australia, India and other countries around the world. The store offers both paid and free Android app downloads, and while it has proved controversial in the former case for Amazon’s control of pricing – it reserves the right to drop prices of individual apps whenever it likes – it could be a useful new channel for distributing artist and music service apps.
