It was probably a good idea for Myxer to get in early with its new social music app, given tomorrow’s focus on all things f8. So, Myxer Social Radio will be an iOS and Android app as well as a website, which lets people listen to music in real-time with their Facebook friends. Yep, another Turntable.fm rival. But Myxer says it will also be throwing music recommendations into the mix (or should that be myx?) as well as chat features. The company demonstrated the new apps at the Digiday Mobile conference in New York today, but they won’t be available to music fans until the fourth quarter of this year. “Myxer Social Radio represents our vision of the future of Internet radio, where listening to music is an emotional and social experience best enjoyed along with friends,” says CEO Myk Willis. Music Ally’s reservations about real-time social music remain in place – the asynchronous sharing mechanic that Facebook is launching tomorrow seems to have more potential – but it will be interesting to see if Myxer’s service has long-term value, or is just a canny attempt to seize on the buzz around Turntable.fm Source: Myxer
