The business case for remix apps based on individual artists remains unproven, but there are other potential partners for the companies with this kind of technology. One of them, Shapemix, has just cut a deal with US music magazine Spin. The result is a new iPhone app called SPINshapemix. It gets people to remix songs by artists including Tiesto and Digitalism, tweaking stems of the songs, adjusting the volume and adding in effects. The app includes a Facebook-fuelled contest to find the best user remix, and as is customary with these apps, the promise is that no musical ability is required to have fun. The question remains whether there is a large audience for this kind of app, though. Source: Mashable
