J Sider, CEO of make-your-own-Facebook-band-page application Rootmusic, has told Billboard that his company plans to incorporate Spotify playlists into its technology. “Streaming music has never been our model”, says Sider, “So we’re excited to work with different partners that can provide that. Over the next few days, we’ll be rolling out a pretty big integration with Spotify.” The interesting bit for rightsowners is that the more applications can be encouraged to use licensed services to deliver their audio, the more revenue will be generated for labels and publishers. Whether Spotify can support that through advertising income, of course, is the million – or multibillion – dollar question.
