After a bit of a backlash concerning privacy and users being forced to share everything they listen to, tweets yesterday from Daniel Ek and Spotify’s official account revealed that the company was already rolling out an update with private listening features. It was then confirmed on Spotify’s US blog: “Many of our users have told us that they like to share what they’re listening to, but also want an easy way to hide their occasional guilty pleasures. So we’ve now added a new `Private Listening’ mode to our latest update”. One small caveat is that it is switched off automatically when users next login, but this is nevertheless a quick reaction to patch quite an overwhelmingly negative response.
