Facebook is making some significant changes to the data available for owners of fan pages on the social network, which are directly relevant to music marketers. The company’s Pages Insights analytics tool will have new metrics to measure the popularity of pages, including one called ‘People Talking About’. This will measure all activity around a page, including wall posts, Likes, comments, shares of posts and content, as well as activity around deals and check-ins. Page owners will also be able to see a stat called ‘Friends of Fans’, measuring the theoretical reach for any posts shared by all fans of a page, and another one called ‘Weekly Total Reach’, which aims to measure the virality of posts and content on a page. Facebook will also be applying these metrics to every page’s last 500 posts. The social network is also introducing a new ‘Expanded Premium Ad’ format, which will allow page owners to turn posts into ads that appear on Facebook users’ homepages, including information on which of their friends have Liked the page.
