The Echo Nest has announced the winner of its Social Music App Challenge competition, which was announced in June. The winning app is Plus Music, developed by Peter Watts. It launched in August, and takes the form of a plug-in for Google’s Chrome web browser. It lets people highlight artist names on the websites that they visit to cue up playlists and find their social networking profiles. It taps into The Echo Nest’s API to pull in the artist data. Watts gets $10,000 and a ‘sweatsedo’ that The Echo Nest claims is ‘coveted’, although judging by the photos on the company’s blog post, we sense it may mainly be coveted by grannies…
