Music products manufacturer First Act has launched a new karaoke app+mic service through its Seven45 Studios subsidiary. It’s called Soulo, and went live on the App Store this week as an iPad app. The app is free, and sells karaoke songs in packs of two for $0.99 a pack, while there’s a choice of wired or wireless microphones for $69 and $99 respectively. Retailers including Wal-Mart and Target are on board to sell the latter. There appears to be an endorsement deal with Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine, too, complete with a canned quote: “I am a karaoke fanatic. With Soulo, I can sing karaoke with my favorite songs, make videos and share them with my friends.” There have been iOS karaoke apps before, but as far as we’re aware this is the first to have a dedicated accessory to use as a microphone.
