It’s not been a great couple of days for music service SoundCloud, which has been down for long slabs of time since 4 October, with engineers working round the clock to find out why and fix the problems. Last night, both happened. “We can confirm that the ongoing service outage that started at 8:40pm last night CET has been a distributed denial-of-service attack,” explains the company on its blog. The site is now up and running, although users are warned that “we’re currently working through a transcoding backlog though. If your track is stuck in the backlog, please wait it out”. What’s been notable has been that the company’s community of users have mainly been supportive rather than angry during the downtime: its apologetic blog posts and tweets explaining what’s going on have clearly done their job.
