Spotify and rivals have seen big bumps in their connected userbases since Facebook’s new music-sharing features launched, but what about artists? Inside Facebook has been doing some digging, and reports that the new ticker features have not resulted in a similar boost for the number of people Liking artist pages on the social network. “Currently, to Like an artist they have been listening to, users have to find a story about their listening activity in the news feed, Ticker, or Timeline. The use can then click through the artist’s name to visit their Page and Like them. A lesser known method is to hover over the artist’s name and use the Like button in the hover card. The hidden buttons and high friction flows mean only users already intent on Liking an artist will become fans,” explains the piece. The site also tracked the 20 most popular musician pages, as well as a dozen smaller artists, and found no increase in the rate of new Likes following Facebook’s launch. It suggests that Facebook should consider including a ‘Like this artist’ button in newsfeed stories about listening activity to remedy this.
