Now rival show The X Factor is trying something different: Twitter voting. It works using direct messaging, so people have to follow the @TheXFactorUSA account to do it. The first live show to allow Twitter voting will air on 2 November. “Direct Messages are private and only viewable by the sender and recipient. Your guilty pleasure won’t be visible to anyone except you,” points out the official site. The news follows the launch earlier this week of an Xtra Factor iPad app, which also allows voting. “Launching touch screen voting on Verizon’s The Xtra Factor App and the new voting on Twitter is really exciting,” says X Factor mogul Simon Cowell. “I love that the audience has more and more choice in the way that they can vote.” The news came as Twitter hired former Disney Music Group exec Tatiana Simonian to focus on music within its Content and Programming team, helping artists and labels make the most of Twitter.
