Westlife karaoke? We’re happy to type the phrase, as long as we never have to actually experience it. Still, this is the basis for online vocal-recording site PureSolo’s latest contest, having signed a deal with Sony RCA around the release of the band’s Greatest Hits album. Fans are being asked to visit PureSolo and record their own versions of five Westlife songs, downloading the original backing tracks first to (hopefully) keep them in tune and time. Prizes on offer for the best efforts include tickets for Westlife’s Farewell Tour, meet’n’greets and signed albums. According to PureSolo, this is the first time Sony has licensed the original backing tracks for people to sing over, so it’s a fairly big deal for the site. The contest is being promoted on Westlife’s Facebook Page too, which has more than 3.6 million Likes.
