Virgin Media has confirmed the first details of how it’ll be offering Spotify to its broadband and mobile customers in the UK. New and recontracting customers signing up to Virgin’s fibre optic home broadband service will get six months of Spotify Premium for free, while broadband customers who sign up to a pay monthly Virgin Mobile contract will get three months’ free – with Spotify streaming over 3G not counting against their mobile data allowance. Virgin Media also says that Spotify’s app for its TiVO set-top box will launch ‘in the coming weeks’. On one level, this news is a bit disappointing: there are expectations around more ambitious bundle deals that might see the cost of Spotify incorporated into broadband subscriptions for longer than a few months. However, Virgin says it will be “revealing a range of additional offers bundling Spotify with its services in due course”.
