Singer-songwriter Will Knox has released a neat iOS app called Lexicon, based around his new EP of the same name. Its App Store listing describes it as “a 5-track recording put together as a comic book. It is an effort to bring music, lyrics and artwork closer together in a new age of digital technology”. People buying the app get a free download of the Lexicon EP itself, through a download code that can be entered on Knox’s website. Which is interesting: Apple has approved an artist app promoting a free download outside its iTunes Store. “While digital downloading has often taken away the necessity for artwork, it has also allowed us to release this project without the need for CDs, Cassettes or Records,” notes the listing. The app costs £2.99 on the App Store.
