Mobile Backstage is one of the startups helping artists release their own apps, and has so far only supported iPhone. Now it’s made the leap to Android, taking artists like Tinie Tempah, You Me At Six, The Kooks and Jessie J with it. Their Android apps will have the same features as the iPhone versions: news, photos, video, audio and text, but also deep social features. “Mobile Backstage is a 21st century fan club that integrates web and mobile fan communities and it’s important that fans can join it regardless of the phone they are using,” notes CEO Paavo Bäckman. Rival Mobile Roadie has been supporting Android for some time now, and it’s a sensible move: Google-powered smartphones are selling in their tens of millions. Talking of Mobile Roadie, it’s just released version 3.3 of its own platform, with new features including PhotoCards, Share to Unlock, Popup Notification and – at last – an Offline Mode.
