Audio service SoundCloud is the latest startup to get into HTML5, releasing a public beta of its HTML5 widget – its second-most requested feature after an iPad app (which was released last week). The new widget is what SoundCloud creators can embed in their websites and blogs, and sports a nifty new waveform design, a more prominent title, and sharing options for Facebook, Twitter and Google+. The widget runs natively in browsers and is fully iOS-friendly due to the lack of Flash elements. SoundCloud is describing it as a “first iteration” too, since using HTML5 is expected to make it faster to develop and add new features. The new widget is already being used by the likes of Ed Sheeran, Britney Spears, Emmy The Great & Tim Wheeler, and non-music users like The Economist and Nickelodeon.
