Jamiroquai are off on tour again, and they’re taking some high-tech posters with them. The band are working with Media Junction to place ‘smart posters’ around venues on their European tour using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. Fans with NFC-capable phones will be able to tap the posters to enter a competition via a mobile website. Eight venues will get the posters. The downside: relatively few smartphones have NFC built-in at the moment, although new models like the Google Nexus S are being heavily promoted – the tech is also in devices by Nokia and RIM, although not the iPhone.

“NFC is a powerful technology when marketing artists because the process is straightforward and the rewards are instant for fans, in this case they can immediately see exclusive content at an event they’re engaged with,” says Media Junction’s Neil Cartwright.
