Google is testing a new feature for its search engine that has implications for music artists. It’s apparently codenamed ‘Sources’, and involves popping up a box of biographical information, songlinks and related artists when someone searches for an artist – the example shown by the Search Engine Land blog is ‘Rihanna‘. What we can’t tell from the screenshot is where the songlinks lead to, although in the future we wonder if they will be tied in to Google’s own music store. Sources is currently only being tested with a sample of users, and it also works for companies and brands – so it’s not music-specific.
