Streaming music service Spotify is available on another mobile platform today: Microsoft’s Windows Phone. Microsoft unveiled a version of Spotify’s app that has been redesigned for its smartphone OS, complete with Facebook-fuelled social features, background music playing, and the ability to ‘pin’ playlists to the Windows Phone home screen as ‘Live Tiles’ – one of the big features of Microsoft’s OS. Microsoft unveiled the app at a Windows Phone press event in New York yesterday, saying it would go live on the company’s Marketplace store later in the day. We’re assuming it will be available in all nine countries where Spotify is live. The launch comes ahead of Nokia’s new Lumia 800 handset going on sale, which is expected to give Windows Phone a big boost in Europe.
In separate Spotinews, the company will hold its first Spotify Live gig in the UK this Friday, in partnership with Rockfeedback Concerts and The Guardian.
