Music startup Roqbot has secured a big-name retail partner to trial its social DJ app. It’s working with The Gap, albeit in only one store in San Francisco. There, customers who have Roqbot’s app on their phones will be able to choose songs from its catalogue of six million songs to play – while seeing their avatar appear on the in-store screens.
The trial will run until early 2012, with the possibility of being extended to other stores if it’s successful. The Gap is one of the first companies to hop on board Roqbot’s new Roqbot for Retail service, which it’s rolling out in partnership with Cisco. “They were looking for a better way to engage their customers around music,” co-founder Garrett Dodge tells VentureBeat.
