84% of iPhone owners will buy another iPhone when they next upgrade, according to a poll conducted by GfK. That puts Apple well ahead of Google’s Android OS, which scored 60% in the same survey, and RIM’s BlackBerry OS, which only scored 48%.

GfK says these figures – based on interviews with 4,500 people in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, China, the US and Japan – are important, because the patterns of loyalty set now will influence the smartphone market for the long term. “The scope for brands to lure customers from rivals has diminished and the richest rewards will go to those providers that can create the most harmonious user experience and develop this brand loyalty.”
