Big things are afoot in the world of music videos, with CNET reporting that MTV and Vevo are holding licensing discussions for MTV’s websites to carry Vevo’s catalogue of videos. Currently, MTV is one of the more high-profile music sites not to have a deal with Vevo, with recent years seeing Vevo co-owner UMG pull its videos from MTV’s sites, while Vevo holdout WMG struck a deal with MTV to sell ad inventory around its own video content. CNET’s report suggests the sticking point between Vevo and MTV in the past has been the latter’s refusal to use Vevo’s branded player. It remains to be seen which side has backed down on that score.
