The latest artist to launch his own iOS app is Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, although Guitar Prodigy is far from the usual promotional fare. Costing £6.99 on the App Store, the app aims to teach people to “shred like Megadeth”, complete with note-for-note transcriptions supplied by Mustaine himself. “These songs were officially gone over by me, so no more bunk transcriptions and bad tabs; it’s just like having a private guitar lesson from me,” says Mustaine in the store listing, while promising that users can slow the parts down if they’re not quite up to his speed/standard. The app actually listens to what users are playing on their real guitar and scores them. Individual songs and lessons are included, and also available for (free) download in-app.
