London recording studio Air Studios has launched an iPad app that promises to “recreate the ambience, warmth and experience of vinyl recordings, transforming your MP3 and digital music collection into your record collection, bringing back all the warmth of analogue harmonics”. Which means a virtual record player, complete with ‘crates’ from which you can pluck versions of the music stored on the iPad. There’s also a playlist-creation feature to create virtual mixtapes. “The audio output from AirVinyl has been enhanced by the award winning audio engineers at Air Studios to recreate the audio ambience originally intended by the artist,” claims the App Store listing. AirVinyl costs 69p, and is the work of UK developer Bappz – whose MD Paul Myers will be familiar to digital music industry veterans from his past role as CEO at music service Wippit.
