Live Nation made a big data play by buying BigChampagne earlier this month, but now its Ticketmaster division appears to be making its own move to get more out of data analysis. Ticketmaster has hired John Carnahan – described as a ‘data guru’ by VentureBeat – to head up a new group called Data Science. His official title is EVP of data science and engineering. “We know how much an impression is worth to various advertisers out there, but we don’t know what the value of a seat means to a user,” says Carnahan. “We’re sitting on a relatively untapped dataset of fan interest. It’s very exciting from a science perspective.” We’re wondering how Ticketmaster’s Data Science Group will work with the newly established Live Nation Labs, which came out of the BigChampagne deal.
