US mobile operator Cricket Communications has announced a new milestone for its Muve Music service. It’s signed up 500,000 customers in the first year for the service, which bundles music access with mobile handsets. Cricket claims Muve is the second largest digital music subscription service in the US, with only Rhapsody’s 1m subscribers ahead of it – a Forbes article last week suggested Spotify is on 400,000 (Bulletin, 5-Jan-12). Cricket also says that the average Muve Music customer listens to music on theor phone for around 40 hours a month, downloading 300 songs over the mobile network. “Cricket is seeing subscriber growth, ARPU increase and a positive churn trend on the back of this unique new product idea,” says boss Doug Hutcheson. More stats: Muve users have downloaded more than 500m songs and listened to 1.5bn tracks since the service launched early in 2011.
