Al Gore is the latest person to attack the proposed SOPA anti-piracy legislation in the US. Gore told an audience at a CareerBuilder event that some of the provisions in the bill would “very probably have the effect of really shutting down the vibrancy of the internet”. That said, Gore was careful to present both sides of the argument, noting that “the content creators and owners have a point and a legitimate complaint”, but maintaining that an overriding ambition should be to “save and protect the vibrancy and freedom of the internet… If you look at the reform movements around the world, and in the US, more than likely they’re based on internet forms of organization. And anything that would threaten the vibrancy and freedom of the internet, I’m against!”
