EMI has announced that it has acquired “a significant shareholding” in French music rights firm PlayOn, which has interests in production, publishing, management and live events. The company is best known for its work with French singer Zaz, who EMI says has sold 1.5m albums worldwide. “With this partnership, PlayOn will be able to speed up its international development and more generally synergise its diverse activities with EMI Music, working in close cooperation with EMI Music Publishing,” say PlayOn’s founders in a statement.
