Facebook has added a new feature to its music offering called Listen With Friends. It does what it says on the tin. “This feature lets you listen along with any of your friends who are currently listening to music. You can also listen together in a group while one of your friends plays DJ,” explains the company. People can also chat to those friends while listening “to the sme song, at the exact same time”. The rollout kicked off yesterday, with Spotify, Rdio and Mog three of the first services to take advantage. Turntable.fm has already reacted somewhat waspishly to the competition. “I’m flattered Facebook was inspired by turntable.fm and created a listen together feature,” co-founder Billy Chasen tells TechCrunch. “I look forward to seeing how they interpret what social music means as we seem to have different core philosophies about it (such as the importance of discovering new music from strangers and not just friends).” In separate news, digital marketing firm iCrossing has estimated that Facebook is on track to hit 1bn active users by August this year.
