BitTorrent company FrostWire has been trying to work with artists for some time, distributing their music to its users for free. Now the company says it generated 2.4m downloads of these authorised giveaways in 2011 through its FrostClick feature. TorrentFreak has been talking to some of those artists. Rapper Kellee Maize says her album was downloaded by more than 130,000 FrostWire users. “Paying for that type of exposure would have cost me over $50,000 on other outlets such as taking out Facebook ads or Google Adsense,” she says. “Because of FrostWire I’ve accumulated over 100,000 Facebook and Twitter followers. During my FrostWire campaign, my website has received over 100,000 page views.” Maize also claims an uplift in sales of her albums on iTunes as a result of the deal.
