Music tracking firm Next Big Sound has published a report on online music in 2011, with a bunch of stats to chew on. The headline figure: 64.9bn song and video plays across the services that it tracks (YouTube, Vevo, SoundCloud, Rdio, Last.fm, MySpace, Vimeo, ReverbNation and PureVolume, since you ask). It also counts 3.4bn fans across various social services, including Facebook and Twitter, and 16.2bn profile views across those networks. It also identifies a 231% increase in the number of song plays for the top five artists on SoundCloud, 104% growth in followers for the top five artists on Twitter, and a 96% growth in page likes for the top five artists on Facebook. And for light relief, a 6% growth in profile views for the top five artists on Myspace too.
